Sergio Barrientos
Seismological Service, University of ChileKeynote Lecture: “Crustal Deformations Associated with Earthquakes”
Sergio Barrientos obtained his M.Sc. degree at University of Chile and his PhD. in Earth Sciences at the University of California, Santa Cruz. He carried out post-doctoral research at Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences (University of Colorado) and Southern California Earthquake Center (USC). He joined the Faculty at the Department of Geophysics of the University of Chile in Santiago and later, for a period of nine years (1997-2006), he held the position of Seismic Section Chief of the International Monitoring System of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization, seated in Vienna, Austria.
Dr. Barrientos currently serves as the Scientific Director of the Seismological Service of the University of Chile. His main interests and contributions are in the field of crustal deformation associated with the earthquake cycle and source processes.
