PARTISAN REVIEW
not to know what one's future was.
In!:
Isn ' t the plot of time that Little , Brown has bought you what you 've been
looking for so that you don't have
to
do two or three months' work and get a
big chunk of money so that you can get back to the novel?
Mazier:
That's what I wanted the contract for. I kept making these big chunks
of money for quick books, but they would take enough out of me so that I
didn't gain time. I kept thinking I might , but never did. Now I can work at
a steadier rate, and less on a collision course. The question is, however, have
I kept enough of myself intact
to
do this book? We're going
to
find out.
That's existential.
