Doctor of Ministry

Anyone can become a transformational leader. With the Doctor of Ministry (DMin) in Transformational Leadership at Boston University School of Theology, you will build new skills and explore new ideas, understand your community and know its strengths and needs, and see new possibilities for transformative change.

Degree Requirements

Doctor of Ministry students are required to take 30 units as follows:

  • 4 Intensive Seminars (offered in-person, 1-week intensives in August and January):
    • Transformational Leadership (4 units)
    • Contextual-Theological Analysis (4 units)
    • Research Methods (2 units)
    • DMin Project Colloquium (2 units)
  • 3 Cohort Courses: Cohort courses are offered online, and students take them together as a cohort. All cohort courses must be taken at STH (12 units).
  • 1 Elective Course from any area: This 800-level course may be taken online or, in special circumstances, may be petitioned to be taken on-campus at STH. The elective course can be taken through the BTI (4 units).
  • 1 Directed Study Course to conduct DMin Project research and writing (2 units).

Application Requirements

Doctor of Ministry applicants must possess an MDiv or MDiv-equivalent degree with a cumulative GPA of 3.3 in their masters program. Applicants must also have completed a minimum of three years of full-time professional ministry or its equivalent.
