Take your teaching to the next level and have a lasting impact through world languages. Boston University’s EdM in World Language Education prepares new and experienced educators to inspire language learning in diverse classrooms. Opportunity to earn teaching licensure available.

Give your Students the World

With a master’s degree in World Language Education from Boston University Wheelock College of Education & Human Development, you can begin or advance your career as an effective world language educator. The EdM in World Language Education is open to educators of any modern language and offers the option to seek licensure in Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, Russian, or Spanish. 

This flexible program offers both full- and part-time options. Students enroll in one of four tracks: 

  • Aspiring World Language Licensed Educator, Grades PreK–6
  • Aspiring World Language Licensed Educator, Grades 5–12
  • Aspiring World Language Educator (non-licensure)
  • Advancing Professional in World Language Education

Additional scholarship opportunities are available for active members of TAPIF and ACTFL members that pursue the EdM in World Language Education at BU Wheelock.

Students are expected to hold a minimum of Advanced level proficiency in the language they are aspiring to teach prior to being admitted into this program.
