Nicole Marrero

Nicole Marrero is a Ph.D. candidate in the Behavioral Neurosciences program at Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine, where she conducts research within the Center for Neurorehabilitation. Before joining the Center for Neurorehabilitation, Nicole was a clinical research coordinator in the Department of Neurology at Massachusetts General Hospital, where she worked on studies focused on the development and implementation of digital measurement tools to assess and monitor disease severity in individuals with movement disorders. Previously, Nicole worked as a research assistant at the University of Pittsburgh, where she administered neuropsychological assessments as part of a clinical trial examining the effects of exercise on cognition and brain health in older adults. Her current research focuses on the relationships between cognition, gait, and brain activity in people with Parkinson’s disease. She is particularly interested in using cognitive assessments, wearable sensors, and functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) to better understand the neural mechanisms underlying gait and to develop more targeted rehabilitation approaches for individuals with Parkinson’s disease. Nicole was recently awarded an NIH F31 Predoctoral Fellowship to support her doctoral research.
