NPC Collaborative Award for Neurophotonics Devel-Opment (CAN DO)

Deadline for proposals for Consideration with ENG’s Dean’s Catalyst Award (Dec 1, 2022)

The NPC uses this CAN DO mechanism to support new projects amongst two or more collaborating NPC Faculty that will likely result in new collaborative grant proposals and potentially produce new methods of interest to other NPC Faculty and their teams. NPC is able to provide funds for trainee(s), equipment and supplies to help launch these new collaborative efforts. Applications can be submitted at any time. Applicants are encouraged to submit by the typical December deadline to leverage the Dean of Engineering’s Catalyst Award with the CAN DO. Please reach out to any of the NPC Directors to discuss and help form your ideas.

A goal of this Collaborative Project Award is to stimulate interaction between technology and biology experts. We are interested in providing seed funding for innovative projects from which a high payoff could be obtained. A further goal is to assist in generation of preliminary data that will enable funding from extramural agencies. Preference will be given to proposals encompassing several laboratories and for projects that catalyze new collaborative research.

NPC Collaborative Project Award

  • Provide a descriptive title of the project.
  • Requests can be made for individual PIs, or collaborations of 2 or more PIs. Requests for larger scale NPC support will be favored better when the NPC is supporting collaborations.
  • Please provide a brief description of the project. A paragraph is fine, or up to a page depending on the scale of the support requested.
  • Briefly describe the expected outcomes and impact of the support. What grant and/or paper submissions will be impacted? What new technologies will result that could have broader impact with BU faculty? In other words, briefly describe the impact on your own work and the broader impact on the NPC community. Any other impacts that could result from the support?
  • Provide a bullet point list of services and/or funding requested. Services include those from the NPC Core Facility and indicate the number of hours requested and what percent subsidy is requested. Funding requests (beyond just services) will only be considered for projects that build collaborative projects that will support grant applications.
  • Projects are supported for up to 1 year at a time. But less time can be requested. Projects can be renewed.
  • Briefly describe the commitment being made by the NPC faculty to the project. For example, which trainees from the faculty lab are committed to working on the project.
  • Briefly describe the current grants and future grant applications that will be impacted by this support.
