Nicole Eklund is a Behavioral Neuroscience doctoral student where she is under the mentorship of Terry Ellis at the Center for Neurorehabilitation. Her current research interests are centered on investigating the neural mechanisms associated with rehabilitation methods for people with Parkinson’s disease, specifically exploring how technological interventions can enhance motor function. Her ongoing projects include examining the effects of rhythmic auditory stimulation on brain activation during walking using functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) and, in collaboration with Harvard University, exploring the use of soft robotic apparel to prevent freezing of gait in Parkinson’s patients. Nicole, originally from Philadelphia, graduated from Syracuse University with her BA in Psychology and Neuroscience.
