Courtney Guida
PhD Student | PBS | Cronin-Galomb Lab
Courtney Guida is a Ph.D. student in Clinical Psychology at Boston University, where she also earned her M.A. in Psychology. She holds B.S. degrees in Neuroscience and Psychology, with a minor in Cognitive Science, from the University of Delaware. Her research focuses on the intersection of motor and cognitive function in persons with Parkinson’s disease (PwPD), particularly investigating how attentional impairments relate to alterations in gait. Under the mentorship of Dr. Alice Cronin-Golomb, Courtney employs techniques such as functional near- infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) to assess cortical activity during dual-task walking in Parkinson’s
disease in collaboration with Dr. Terry Ellis. She is interested in leveraging fNIRS, to explore a shared neural substrate for dysfunctions of gait and attention in PwPD, with the ultimate goal of providing insights into the development of interventions, such as brain-based targeted stimulation, aimed at improving functional outcomes. Courtney has also collaborated with Dr. Michael Esterman of the Boston VA Healthcare System, contributing to studies on attentional processes and mobility decline in healthy aging.
