Atiyeh Taheri

Atiyeh Taheri is a PhD candidate in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Boston University, where her research focuses on Optical Coherence Elastography (OCE) and inverse finite element methods for high-resolution characterization of arterial tissue mechanics. Her current work integrates elastography imaging, wave propagation analysis, computational modeling, and optimization to reconstruct spatial distributions of tissue mechanical properties, with applications in vascular biomechanics.

Her doctoral research also investigates the biomechanics of human cerebral arteries through the integration of mechanical experiments, multiphoton imaging, and constitutive modeling. She developed a structure-motivated constitutive framework incorporating age-dependent collagen fiber engagement to characterize the mechanical behavior of cerebral arteries across aging. This work was published in Acta Biomaterialia.

Prior to her doctoral studies, she received both her B.S. and M.S. degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Sharif University of Technology. Her master’s research focused on the design and additive manufacturing of orthopedic implants and cellular biomaterials, resulting in three publications in biomechanics and orthopedic implant design.
Her research interests include computational biomechanics, elastography, inverse problems, imaging and image processing, and finite element analysis.
