Alex Gray is a PhD student in the Biomedical Optics Laboratory (BMO) (https://www.bu.edu/bmo/) at Boston University. He received his B.S. in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Rhode Island in 2019 before joining Boston University, where he developed techniques for rapid imaging of oral cancer margin assessment using elastic scattering spectroscopy. In January 2021, he earned his M.S. in Biomedical Engineering from the BMO Lab and joined the PhD program in the Fall of 2021.

His current research focuses on developing label-free quantitative microscopy techniques for automated myelin histology using birefringence microscopy and deep learning. He collaborates with Dr. Tara Moore and Dr. Douglas Rosene in the Laboratory of Cognitive Neurobiology to study the effects of various therapeutic interventions on cortical injury and normal age-related cognitive impairment. Together, they aim to establish a framework for investigating myelin changes across a range of neurological disorders, trauma, and aging using quantitative, label-free imaging techniques.
