Nicholas Vickers

Nicholas Vickers (Andersson Lab) studied Material Science and Engineering at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, where his passion for applied optics started and grew.  His B.S+M.S. dissertation was on integrating polymeric optical waveguides onto microfluidic platforms for multi-site on chip chemical analysis and photo-catalyzation.  After concluding his studies he went on to work […]

Jack Vincent

Jack is a BME PhD student in the Economo Lab. His research uses a number of optical tools including confocal imaging of fluorescence in situ hybridization, optogenetic stimulation and inhibition, and serial two-photon tomography of axon collaterals to uncover the cell types, projection patterns, and premotor circuits underlying orofacial movements in mice. He has a BS and MS […]

Michael Wallace

Michael Wallace is a second-year Ph.D. candidate in Biomedical Engineering at Boston University, advised by Drs. Michael Economo and Brian Cleary. He earned his B.S. in Biomedical Engineering from Boston University in 2020 and participated in translational transcriptomics research at MGH. His research aims to leverage cutting-edge tools in genomics and transcriptomics to identify the molecular determinants of […]

Songyang Wang

Songyang Wang is a fifth-year PhD candidate in Biomedical Engineering specializing in synaptic connectomics. He earned his Bachelor’s in Biomedical Engineering from the University of California, Irvine, where he researched brain–heart connectivity using a mouse cardiac arrest model. Continuing his passion for neural research, his current project focuses on unraveling the brain’s fundamental wiring motifs by […]

Ting Xie

Ting is a Ph.D. candidate in Electrical & Computer Engineering. She received her BS in Applied Physics from Huaqiao University in June 2011 and MS in Optical Engineering from Zhejiang University in December 2015. Upon graduation, she joined Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. where she performed as a Product Manager for three years. In September, she joined Dr. Bigio’s lab and […]

Qianwan Yang

Qianwan Yang is currently a third year Ph.D. student working with Professor Lei Tian in the Computational Imaging Systems Lab at Boston University. Her research interests center around computational imaging, with particular emphasis on developing novel Computational Miniature Mesoscope for large scale 3D fluorescence imaging.

Irene Zhou

Irene is a 3rd year PhD student in Biomedical Engineering. She earned her B.S. in Biomedical Engineering at Washington University in St. Louis. Irene is interested in neural circuitry and computational biology. She is currently working on determining the balance between excitatory and inhibitory activity in the neocortex under different states at Dr. John White’s lab.

Samuel Zhou

Sam is a PhD candidate in Biomedical Engineering. He completed his BS in Biomedical Engineering at Boston University in 2021. During his undergraduate studies, he developed an imaging device for real-time functional measurements of 3D printed kidney tissue at the Wyss Institute, before joining Dr. Xue Han’s lab where he studied deep brain stimulation. He joined […]
