Byron Price (Gavornik lab) became interested in neurophotonics through its usefulness in neuroscience. He is intrigued by the prospects of recording thousands of neurons simultaneously and leveraging genetic tools in mice to target individual cell types for imaging or optogenetic manipulation, and hopes to eventually use neurophotonic tools for real-time neural control experiments. He received a B.A. from Vanderbilt University in 2011 with majors in both Physics and Spanish. His dissertation is on the predictive coding model of sensory perception, neurons along the sensory hierarchy exchange top-down predictions and bottom-up prediction errors. He expects to graduate in 2021.
