Shen Ning (Boas Lab) graduated from Cornell University with a B.A. in Biology and Society and a minor in Cognitive Science in 2015. She first ventured into the field of neuroscience during her junior year abroad at Oxford University, where she worked on research projects aimed at understanding the basis of working memory. She was drawn to neurophotonics for its interdisciplinary approach combining neuroscience and engineering. As an incoming first-year student in the Graduate Program for Neuroscience, Shen joined Dr. Boas’ lab with the intent of applying optical imaging tools to better understand the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative diseases. Her dissertation involved characterizing cerebral capillary stalling in Alzheimer’s Disease using optical coherence tomography. She expects to graduate in 2023 with a dual MD/Ph.D. degree.
