Jaclyn Birnbaum (Economo Lab) received a B.S. in Behavioral Neuroscience with a minor in Ethics from Northeastern University in 2019. During her undergrad, she was involved in research aimed at identifying different transcriptomic cell types in the dorsal raphe nucleus, the main producer of serotonin in the brain. This project led Jaclyn in the direction of neurophotonics because she became interested in using optogenetics to perturb specific cell types and neural circuits in order to study the effect on behavior. She joined Dr. Mike Economo’s Lab in the Biomedical Engineering Department where she will likely be using optogenetics to study the control of movement in different behavioral contexts. Jaclyn expects to graduate in 2025.
