Tian Receives Provost’s Scholar-Teacher of the Year Award
Associate Professor Lei Tian received a 2025 Boston University Provost’s Scholar-Teacher of the Year Award, which honors scholars who excel both at the practice of teaching and at pedagogy, the art and science behind the practice, carries a $5K honorarium. Tian Named Optica Fellow
Professor Lei Tian was elected Fellow by Optica for “contributions to computational microscopy, including differential phase contrast microscopy, Fourier ptychography, optical diffraction tomography, and imaging in scattering.” Read more on ECE News page.
Karl Assumes Leadership Role with IEEE
Our colleague and ECE Chair, Professor W. Clem Karl, has been elected to serve as IEEE’s 2025 Vice President of Publication Services and Products. This role includes a position on the IEEE Board of Directors, as well as Chairship of the Publication Services and Products Board (PSPB). Read more on ECE News page.
Emiliano Dall’Anese Joins IDS
Emiliano Dall’Anese recently joined the ECE Department at the rank of Associate Professor. Previously he was on faculty at the University of Colorado Boulder. His research interest are in optimization and control of cyberphysical systems, modern power and energy systems, and electrified transportation. He earned his Ph.D. at the University of Padova, Italy, in 2011. Read more on ECE News page.
Nazer Receives Gitner Family Award for Innovation in Teaching with Technology
Professor Bobak Nazer received the Boston University 2024 Gerald and Deanne Gitner Family Award for Innovation in Teaching with Technology, which is given in recognition of the innovative use of technology by an instructor or team towards “positive learning outcomes for undergraduate students” and which is also “adopted by faculty colleagues within or outside BU.” Read more on ECE News page.
Goyal Named Guggenheim Fellow
Professor Vivek Goyal received a Guggenheim Fellowship, a prestigious grant from the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation. Read more on ECE News page.
Li Earns NSF CAREER Award
Assistant Professor Wenchao Li (ECE, SE) was awarded a prestigious NSF CAREER Award for a new project entitled “Specification-Guided Imitation Learning” which has the potential to transform the development of AI systems. Read more on ECE News page.
Goyal Elected AAAS Fellow
Professor Vivek Goyal has been elected as a 2022 Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS); a prestigious honor, and richly deserved. Read more on ECE News page.
Paschalidis Elected IFAC Fellow
Professor Ioannis Paschalidis, Distinguished Professor of Engineering, has been elected a Fellow of the International Federation of Automatic Control (IFAC), in recognition of his work on control of network systems, optimization, and robust learning. Kayhan Batmanghelich Joins IDS
Kayhan Batmanghelich joined ECE Department in January 2023 at the rank of Assistant Professor. Previously, he was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biomedical Informatics at the University of Pittsburgh. His research interests are in explainable AI for healthcare, medical vision, probabilistic graphical models, Bayesian data analysis, machine learning under data constraints, and multi-modal learning.
