Announcing the $10k BU Refugee Challenge

Innovate@BU has announced the launch of its newest challenge, the BU Refugee Challenge! The $10,000 competition is aimed at identifying innovative, student-led solutions to the systemic problems faced by refugees and migrants in the Greater Boston area.

Participants are invited to submit their ideas for solutions at any stage of development, from ideation to implementation. The competition offers coaching and networking opportunities with local nonprofits and policy-makers. The winning idea will receive $10,000 in funding.

“The BU Refugee Challenge is a chance for the BU community to come together and make a positive impact in the Greater Boston area,” said Katie Quigley Mellor, Innovate@BU’s director of social entrepreneurship. “By leveraging the ingenuity of our students and alumni, we can help provide support and assistance to those who need it most.”

Applications for the BU Refugee Challenge open on March 1 and must be submitted by March 25 at 11:59 pm. All current BU students and class of 2022 alumni are eligible to apply. No previous experience is necessary.

The top ten teams will be invited to present their pitch in the semi-final round on April 4. The top four teams will then advance to the final round on April 12, where they will have the chance to compete for the $10,000 in funding.
