Brian Sousa

MS Candidate, Climate & Health, BU School of Public Health

Brian Sousa is an M.S. student in Climate and Health in the Department of Environmental Health at the BU School of Public Health. His interests focus on climate mitigation strategies, the impacts they have on public health, and how we can work to mitigate these impacts through an environmental justice lens. For the IMAP-sponsored IGS Graduate Student Summer 2024 Fellowship, Brian is conducting independent research evaluating the cost-effectiveness and related impacts of deploying renewable energy and carbon capture technologies in the United States. This research will look at the infrastructure costs, emission reductions, health impacts, and water consumption of various renewable energy and carbon capture technologies in the United States. Brian plans to use his research to contribute to the transition away from fossil fuels by providing insights into the public health impacts of various strategies and aid policymakers with the tools needed to ensure it is done equitably.
