Emily Rothman

Assistant Provost for General Education

Emily Rothman serves as Assistant Provost for General Education, is a Professor in Sargent College and is affiliated with the School of Public Health. Most recently, she also served as the Associate Dean for Strategic Initiatives at Sargent College. As Assistant Provost, Dr. Rothman oversees the BU Hub, the University’s general education program. She leads the ongoing assessment efforts of the Hub and collaborates with faculty and staff across the University in the continuing curricular development of Hub programs and courses. Dr. Rothman chairs the BU Hub Council, the faculty body that oversees the governance and assessment of the Hub, and co-chairs the General Education Committee of the University Council, whose faculty members approve and review all courses approved for inclusion in the Hub.

Dr. Rothman is an expert in violence prevention research and in autism. She has conducted multiple federally-funded research projects focused on intimate partner violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, and gun violence. She has authored one book (“Pornography and Public Health”), authored more than 160 peer-reviewed research articles.
