Carolyn Williams

I taught English at Boston University from 1977 until 1988, when I moved to Rutgers University (so it was great for me that Eve eventually moved to New York City). During my time at BU, I was fortunate enough to be on the hiring committee that lured Eve from Hamilton College to BU. Then, the ID 450 Collective became one of the formative experiences of my life. Eve’s written work has influenced, inspired, and encouraged me, as she herself always did. I learn from her “that courage of even the most spectacular nature isn’t after all a spectacle, an arena with fixed sightlines, but instead a kind of floating permeable rialto of common lending, borrowing, extravagant indebtedness, and exchange.”
