The Boston University Faculty Group for Gender and Sexuality Studies established the annual Eve Kosofsky Sedgwick Memorial Lecture in 2010 to help nurture and inspire scholarship, discussion and activism on issues of gender and sexuality at Boston University, in the broader Boston community, and beyond.

Professor Henry Abelove of Wesleyan University delivered the inaugural lecture, “Gay Liberation Reconsidered,” to an audience of 100 students and faculty members. Professor Abelove co-edited The Lesbian and Gay Studies Reader (Routledge, 1990) which helped to establish the fields of LGBT Studies and Queer Theory. He is the author of Deep Gossip, University of Minnesota Press, 2005.

For a brief memoir about Eve Sedgwick by Professor Abelove, see his essay, “The Bar and the Board,” in GLQ, vol. 17, no. 4, 2011.
