Examines the ideas and experiences of women in the United States from the 1600s through the late twentieth century. Considers the common factors that shaped women’s lives as well as women’s diverse class, ethnic, and regional experiences. The U.S. women’s national soccer team achieved pay equity in the same year that the supreme court overturned Roe v. Wade. How are both possible? In the 21st century? Join Professor Nina Silber for an exploration of the history of women and gender in the U.S. The course will explore the day to day and larger ways that gender activists made space for themselves in American life. Through success, failure, and backlash, they have marched on. Come learn about their long struggle for equality. *Students will get credit for Women’s, Gender, & Sexuality Studies Program minor with a petition.*
