History Department Co-Sponsors Events with Pardee School’s Global Security Initiative (GSI)

The History Department and the Pardee School of Global Studies are co-sponsoring two events this fall through a new Global Security Initiative (GSI). This initiative brings together students and faculty from BU and beyond to consider the past and present of global security.
On October 21, from 12:30 to 2pm, Gretchen Heefner (Northeastern University) will be speaking about her new book, Sand, Snow, and Stardust: How US Military Engineers Conquered Extreme Enviornments. Location: 121 Bay State Road. Please register here.
On November 5, from 2:30 to 4pm, Julia Mead (Harvard University) will give a public talk entitled “The Allure of the Gas Stove: Gender and Energy Security in Socialist Czechoslovakia.” Location: 121 Bay State Road. Please register here.
In addition, after Julia Mead’s talk on November 5, she will be available to meet with BU students for an informal “Cookies and Conversation” event, to be held in 121 Bay State Road from 4:15 to 5:15pm. Students interested in speaking with Dr. Mead about her research on gender, energy security, and the history of communism, are encouraged to register here.
