Atabek Djumagulov
Atabek Djumagulov has over 10 years of experience in the public and private sectors of the Kyrgyz economy, including the banking and finance sector. Over the last three years, he served as a head of the loan department of BPN CA, a microfinance company sponsored by a Swiss small and medium entrepreneurship (SME) development project. Additionally, as an entrepreneur, he has founded several start-up companies. Mr. Djumagulov is also the acting chair of the SME support committee of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Kyrgyz Republic.
Mr. Djumagulov studied public economy at Masaryk University in the Czech Republic and received his master’s in economics from Kyrgyz State National University.
During his Humphrey year, he intends to explore the SME support policies of American governmental and nongovernmental agencies, best practices and innovative financial tools for SMEs, and ways to apply them in the Kyrgyz Republic. He hopes to enhance the use of green energy units—solar panels, wind generators, and micro hydroelectric power stations—in the Kyrgyz Republic at accessible prices for residential and commercial customers. He also wants to start a project that will make finance more accessible for SMEs in the Kyrgyz Republic.
