In many ways, the passage into autumn ushers in change. The semester kicks off. Campus buzzes with new energy. In Global Programs, we were thrilled to welcome a large number of new and returning international students and scholars to campus for the 2022-2023 academic year. These students and scholars infuse our campus community with different and valuable worldviews. We spotlight two international students in this issue who are making the most of their time here and have completed high-impact internships with CBS News and Boston Medical Center.
For those interested in studying away from BU’s Boston campuses, we’re excited to be building back Study Abroad programs after almost two years of navigating pandemic-related twists and turns. The incredible turnout at our recent Study Abroad Expo was illustrative of just how globally-minded our students are. Our first students are participating in new programs in Santiago, Chile, and Cape Town, South Africa. Renewed opportunities in Germany, France, Ecuador, and New Zealand are also now available. As we take note of the new and renewed opportunities for our students, we also want to recognize the extraordinary momentum and success that our BU Sydney and BU LA Study Abroad sites have had as they celebrate their 30th and 20th anniversaries, respectively. That story, along with a piece on the return of the London semester for CGS freshmen, is below.
We encourage you to save the date for International Education Week (Nov. 14-18) filled with several exciting events led by faculty, students, and staff, and including a timely and fascinating faculty panel discussion on the growing crisis of forced displacement. Further details are in the IEW story.
We hope you enjoy all of the global activities and stories highlighted within.
Sincerely, Willis G. Wang Vice President and Associate Provost for Global Programs
