Pitching in Around the World
Thousands of BU alumni, faculty, staff, and students will be volunteering throughout April during the fifth annual Global Days of Service, a collaboration between the BU Alumni Association and the Community Service Center. In 2013, more than 3,200 volunteers served at 104 projects in 51 cities worldwide.Volunteer sites this year include nonprofits such as Atlanta Habitat for Humanity,Boston’s Pine Street Inn, and food banks across the country.
We Are Fortunate Ones
In this three part series, Sara Rimer documents the growing international student population here at BU, most notably those from China. To get an idea of the demographic shift that has taken place at BU in the past few years: the enrollment in fall 2008, 42 of 4,131 freshmen were from China. In fall 2013, the numbers were 410 of 3,807 freshmen. “We’re a new generation,” says Ge. “We like American culture. It’s new, it’s free.”

Registration Opens for BU’s First MOOCs
Registration for BU’s first four MOOCs (massive open online courses) opened yesterday, signaling the University’s official entrance into a new form of higher education that rethinks the current classroom model and offers it—free of charge—to a global audience.
Global Days of Service
Global Days of Service is a month-long community service event, where members of the BU community come together across the globe to give back to their communities. In 2013, Global Days of Service spanned the entire month of April for the first time, allowing over 4,000 volunteers to put in 25,000 hours of work in 15 countries.
