Dr. Cummings co-founded the Vietnam Family Medicine Development Project in 1995 and continues as senior consultant and active member of the GHC. He has been board certified in family medicine, emergency medicine and undersea & hyperbaric medicine and currently holds academic appointments in Family Medicine at Brown and Boston University Schools of Medicine. Medical school and Family Medicine training were at the University of Florida (1979) and Brown Universities (1982) respectively.

Dr. Cummings’ work in southeast Asia began in mid 1960’s Vietnam where he served as USAID advisor to the minister of health and social welfare for war victim relief and resettlement programs and has continued in various capacities since that time throughout Indochina. In addition, he is a retired senior foreign service officer from the U.S. State Department Office of Medical services. Dr. Cummings provides a variety of primary care health systems consultations, and co-leads our early-phase primary care system strengthening program in Cambodia.  He is actively engaged with the Network TUFH (Towards Unity for Health) and is a Vice President of Family Medicine for GHETS (Global Health through Education Training and Service).
