The Women in Global Health panel discussion
Thursday, December 4th 5-7pm in L-301
(Dinner will be included)
Join Global Health Professors Beard, Foster, Halim, Messersmith and Onyango for a formative discussion about the social, political, cultural, and economic factors affecting women’s positions in society and their contributions to global health and innovation. Formality between professors and students is broken down to facilitate a deeper, more personal dialogue between women who share a common interest in global health work. The panel discussions focus on self-awareness, personal experience, available resources, mechanisms and processes that have supported women working abroad. Topics discussed include seeking reproductive health services in other countries, safety and security, and ways to handle gender terrorism and violence.
There are only 15 seats available for students, the first 15 RSVPs will their seat – Please RSVP to Chase Crossno at ccrossno@bu.edu.
10 Slots Available to GH Students to Tour the NEIDL This Thursday! This will be your only chance before it goes live and is off limits!
A tour of the New and Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratory (NEIDL) at Boston University has been scheduled for Global Health students from 11-1 this Thursday. The lab is run by Boston University and is located right down Albany Street. The University is awaiting final approvals to begin Level 4 bio containment research there. This may be the last chance to tour the facility before it “goes live” and would be off limits. If you want to see what type of facilities are required to study diseases like Ebola, this is your chance.
If you want to attend, please respond right away to Carey Howard (careyeh@bu.edu). We can take up to 10 students in addition to those who have signed up from IH 703. We will accept replies on a first come, first served basis. If you “make the cut” we will send you instructions on meeting with Omid Ameli, the TA for IH 703. The tour will be led by Omid and NEIDL staff.
