Boston University is home to the largest MSW/MPH program in the US. What makes it so special and why should you consider joining the 45 students who are currently studying public health social work?
Public health social work training teaches you how to help prevent social health problems like violence, substance abuse, and HIV/AIDS, but it also educates you in how to intervene once problems have occurred. Public health social workers use research, policy, clinical, and community approaches to effectively help individuals, families, groups, and communities wherever it’s needed. The MSW/MPH program provides you with enhanced career options, flexibility, and a program with a proven track record of success.

The goal for this symposium is to inform and discuss with students the ways in which they can contribute to a social movement for global health. We have invited several keynote speakers (details to be announced shortly), and very much hope that we can get as many Boston University students to attend as possible.

Indian Field Seminar Open to IH students
Dear International Health MPH Student,
I want to let you know about the Indian Field Seminar, an exceptional course in the School of Management that you can access. Students have found it to be an extraordinary experience. We spend two weeks in India, visiting key organizations and settings from across the health sector, going to Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore. India is one of the great emerging countries of the world, an intense mix of all economic levels, social and cultural groups, poor and primitive while also innovative and world class. There will be plenty of time to explore the country as well as the health sector.

Indian Field Seminar Presentation
The seminar takes place in the first two weeks of January, between the two semesters, and counts as a spring semester course. There will be extra expense for travel, housing, etc.
Some elements include:
• Top multinational and Indian bio-pharma and device companies, including Biocon, the largest biotech company India and GE huge John Welch Center in Bangalore
• Leading hospitals from both the private and public sector
• Innovative startup companies
• A trip to rural India to see primary care settings.
• A tour of Dharavi, the largest slum in south Asia, led by the physician who runs the health center there.
Most meetings are with the CEO or other top leaders.
I am also attaching an informational PowerPoint that includes information about itinerary and cost.
If you are interested I encourage you to get in touch with me for more information. There are still a few spaces open (the course is capped at 20). I would also be glad to give you the contact information for students who went this past January, so that you can get their impressions.

CE Completion contract for fall paperwork: Sept. 7 and Sept. 9
Dear IH students,
IF you are working on an Option 2 or 3 CE this fall (Journal article or Independent project), please read on:
It has been brought to my attention that there are 2 dates listed on the CE Completion contract for fall paperwork: Sept. 7 and Sept. 9. I can certainly understand how this would cause confusion for students! I apologize for this.
If you are able to submit your CE documentation by tomorrow, please do so. If you were under the impression that the deadline was September 9 rather than the 7th, you may submit it on the 9th and will not be penalized for this. Ideally, we would like to have as many submissions on the 7th as possible, so if you are able to turn it in then (or any time before the 9th), please do so!

PhamAccess (Namibia) seeks MPH intern to support expansion of mobile clinic program
PharmAccess is an innovative NGO in Namibia that IH Professor Rich Feeley has worked with for a good while. PharmAccess seek an excellent intern to provide administrative support to assist program expansion and Monitoring & Evaluation efforts for the Mister Sister Mobile Clinic program.
The practicum could be as early as Spring semester or possibly summer. The student would have to pay air fare and living expenses. Interested students are encouraged to apply for Santander Funding. PharmAccess can help facilitate finding accommodations. If interested, submit a letter of interest and resume to Joe Anzalone via josanz@bu.edu.

He/she will be responsible for assessing elders for all Little Brothers - Friends of the Elderly programs; coordinating and monitoring the participation of elders in the various programs; and liaising with and/or advocating with external agencies on behalf of the elders, when necessary. Qualifications include: a 4-year college degree; familiarity with elder service organizations; computer proficiency; organizational skills; valid driver's license and willingness to drive agency vehicle; willingness to work all major holidays. Position starting mid-October.
