CONGRESS FUNDS AGENCIES THROUGH DECEMBER 9
This week, President Barack Obama signed into law a continuing resolution that will keep the federal government operating for ten weeks after the start of the October 1 fiscal year at funding levels that are .05% lower than their current amount. As a result, federal agencies are expected to temporarily reduce grant awards and postpone new activities while they await their final budget for the remainder of fiscal year 2017. When lawmakers return to Washington after the November elections, they will have until December 9 to craft the spending bills that determine specific agency budgets. The outcome of the elections will play a role in determining how research and student aid priorities will fare.
