Starting on August 7th 2026, the Gradebook in Blackboard is getting a new look and feel.

Which view of the gradebook is changing?

  • The four tabs (Overview, Gradeable items, Grades, and Students) have been replaced by two views: Grid View and List View. All the same information and functionality will still be available, but sometimes under a new label or in a new place. The Grid view has significantly changed, but the List view remains the same.

Why is it changing? What should I expect?

  • Based on instructor feedback, this change simplifies the gradebook design. You can easily tell how your students are doing, quickly complete outstanding tasks, and find the information you need without navigating across several different pages.

A note about filtering Merged Courses

If you are hosting a Blackboard course with merged sections, you can open the Filter menu in the Gradebook and select the specific sections you’d like to view from the “Merged Courses” dropdown menu that appears. Multiple sections can be selected at a time, and toggled on and off based on preference.

Blackboard “parent courses” with merged sections typically have “_z1” at the end of the course ID, and “child courses” have the section name at the end of their individual course ID.
