Professor Kevin Lang awarded the Laurence A. Bloom Professorship in Economics

The Laurence A. Bloom Professorship in Economics was created through a bequest from CAS alumnus Laurence A. Bloom (DGE‘66, CAS‘68). The professorship is to be awarded to an outstanding faculty member working in any subfield of economics. A selection advisory committee of three senior CAS faculty was formed to review the candidates and advise the Dean” So begins Dean of Arts and Sciences Stan Scarloff’s letter to colleagues announcing Professor Kevin Lang’s prestigious new professorship.

He continues: “The committee was asked to evaluate candidates based on evidence of demonstrated, sustained excellence in research and scholarship, as well as important contributions to teaching and mentorship, and as a citizen of the department, College, and University. The committee was also asked to consider high-profile awards and accolades, evidence of prominence in the field, and excellence in public scholarship. After careful deliberation and review with the committee, I sought the Provost’s approval to appoint Professor Lang as the inaugural holder of the Laurence A. Bloom Professorship.”
