ECI Featured in Teaching Resources for Economics at Community Colleges Newsletter
In March 2021, the ECI was featured in the Teaching Resources for Economics at Community Colleges (TRECC) newsletter. Noting crucial developments in the field of economics, including emerging ideas from behavioral, institutional, feminist, and ecological economics, the following question was posed: how should the mainstream curriculum be reformed to better reflect those developments and our contemporary world?
The article highlighted the interdisciplinary nature of the ECI’s teaching approach as a practical response to the problem. For example, ECI textbooks and modules provide analytical tools to understand climate change, inequality, globalization, and non-market activities, and conceptualize resource management as a primary economic activity. The TRECC article also featured recent studies by Dr. Tim Thornton that highlight the troubling lack of recognition and support experienced by economics educators in community colleges. In recognition of the crucial strengths and potential of community colleges, the ECI remains committed to partnering closely with them to train the next generation of economists.
