Jacob Miszuk

Research Assistant Professor of Restorative Sciences & Biomaterials

About

Dr. Miszuk is a biomedical engineer with 10 years of research experience in biomimetic materials design and study of cell-biomaterials interaction for the regeneration of bone tissue. He received his PhD from the University of South Dakota with his work on development and regenerative potential studies of 3-dimensional electrospun PCL and PLLA blended scaffolds for critical-sized bone defect repair. He completed his postdoctoral training as a NIH T90 fellow at the University of Iowa College of Dentistry, where his research encompassed biomaterials-based drug delivery systems with both natural and synthetic materials to aid in the regeneration of craniofacial bone repair.

Over his graduate and postdoctoral work he has authored over a dozen research publications, two book chapters, more than 20 conference and meeting abstract presentations, and mentored several undergraduate and DDS students’ research projects where he earned two consecutive Dental Student Research Mentor awards from the Iowa College of Dentistry. Dr. Miszuk joined the Department of Restorative Sciences and Biomaterials in 2023, where he is developing new projects to study 3D-printed ceramic composites and the surface treatments effects on macrophage polarization and subsequent inflammatory reactions.
