On Friday, April 24, 2015, President of the Alpha Omega International Dental Fraternity Dr. Adam Stabholz honored Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine (GSDM) and the GSDM chapter of Alpha Omega with a visit to the School. During the visit, he spoke about the mission of Alpha Omega and presented Dean Jeffrey W. Hutter with a check intended to help carry out the mission of Alpha Omega at GSDM.

Dean Hutter thanked Dr. Stabholz for coming to GSDM and invited him to say a few words to the Alpha Omega members who were present. Dr. Stabholz spoke to the students about Alpha Omega, its mission, and future plans for the organization. He talked about the Holocaust Survivor Program and how dental professionals can get involved. He also announced new opportunities for students and new graduates to get involved with networking, community service, and mission trips through Alpha Omega.

After his speech, Alpha Omega members took Dr. Stabholz on a tour of GSDM, that included the Patient Treatment Centers, and the Simulation Learning Center.

On Sunday, April 26, 2015, Alpha Omega held its annual Spring Brunch in honor of the GSDM graduating seniors. The brunch was held at the Courtyard Marriot Hotel in Cambridge and about 100 guests attended, including the Alpha Omega Chapters from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine and Harvard School of Dental Medicine. The annual Brunch is an opportunity to celebrate the graduating seniors and to welcome new members and leadership.

During this year’s brunch, Hilary Reiter DMD 16 was installed as Co-President of Beta Epsilon, GSDM’s Chapter of Alpha Omega, and it was announced that Beta Epsilon won the Chapter Efficiency Award for their day-to-day activities, community service, and philanthropic activities. One Chapter is selected for this award out of all of the Chapters—both national and international. Co-faculty advisor for Beta Epsilon Dr. Ronni Schnell was presented with the Teacher Appreciation Award during the brunch.

Dr. Schnell said, “My teacher appreciation award was a lovely surprise.  Recognition by the students is sincerely gratifying and I am invigorated by this honor.”

“I want to congratulate Dr. Ronni Schnell for her recognition by students with the Teacher Appreciation Award,” said Dean Hutter. “She sets a positive example to our students and is an excellent faculty advisor to the GSDM Chapter of Alpha Omega. To all of the new members of Alpha Omega—welcome, and best wishes to the graduating members.”

Alpha Omega is the oldest international dental organization, founded in 1907 by students to fight discrimination in dental schools. Their mission includes education and philanthropy. The organization is responsible for creating two dental schools in Israel: the Hebrew University-Hadassah School of Dentistry and the Tel Aviv University Maurice and Gabriela Goldschleger School of Dental Medicine.
