Reception Celebrates Completion of the First Academic Program Review

APR -200
Dean Hutter

On November 12, 2014, Dean Jeffrey W. Hutter and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs Dr. Cataldo W. Leone held a reception at the Metcalf Trustee Ballroom to celebrate the successful completion of  the first Academic Program Review (APR) of the Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine (GSDM). APR is a University-wide initiative designed to assess the quality of the educational and research missions of various units. GSDM’s APR process was an intensive year-and-a-half review of the pre-doctoral, post-doctoral, graduate, and faculty educational and research programs. Completed this past summer, it provided the University with an external appraisal of the School’s relative standing in comparison with its peer institutions.

Invitations to the reception were extended to faculty and staff who played important roles during the APR process. Additionally present were Medical Campus Provost Dr. Karen Antman and Manager of Academic Program Review and Strategic Initiatives in the Office of the University Provost Ms. Amanda Urias.  The reception was a relaxed, enjoyable event that was well attended by over 70 faculty and staff.  In his laudatory remarks, Dean Hutter thanked everyone for their contribution to the success of the review.

Dr. Leone noted further that, “It was very important for Dean Hutter and I to bring together everyone involved in the APR, not only to celebrate a successful outcome, but also to acknowledge the hard work and dedication put forth by all.”

The APR process is a six to seven year cycle and will be conducted again approximately in the year 2020. To learn more about the APR, visit the website of the Provost.
