About
Dr. Fan is a biomaterials scientist with over 30 years of research experience, specializing in dental materials. He earned his PhD in Materials Physics and Chemistry with a focus on biomaterials in 2002, following a Master’s degree in Polymer Materials in 1998. Dr. Fan has authored/co-authored 70 peer-reviewed publications, a book chapter, and more than 150 abstracts presented at conferences and meetings. He holds 3 patents. Dr. Fan’s publications has been widely cited. According to Google Scholar, his h-index is 26 with 3,663 citations, while Web of Science reports an h-index of 22 with 2,342 citations (as of 2024).
Dr. Fan supervised and mentored over 100 residents and predoctoral students’ on their research projects, including their research topic selection, protocol development, progress monitoring. Since joining BUGSDM, Dr. Fan has developed numerous research topics and new techniques for educational research, such as polymerization shrinkage stress, fracture toughness, viscoelastic property testing, color stability evaluation, surface texture measurement, cement bonding strength testing, dental biofilm structure, dental prosthesis accuracy test, X-ray crystallographic analysis, and more.
