Getting Healthy in Chelsea 2012

chelsea-2012On Saturday, May 5, 2012, the Division of Community Health Programs (CHP) from Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine’s (GSDM) Department of Health Policy & Health Services Research participated in the school readiness event Getting Healthy in Chelsea 2012.

The Health Fair was organized by Chelsea Family Network celebrating its third year as Chelsea’s Childhood Obesity Awareness and Prevention Fair. The group’s goal is to promote nutrition and wellness programs and initiatives in the community to prevent childhood obesity.

Approximately 300 adults and 175 children attended the health fair at the Williams School Cafeteria in Chelsea, MA. There were approximately 10 to 15 tables in total at the health fair. GSDM had one table staffed with volunteers Dr. Ana Keohane, Dr. Martin Ugarte, and Research Dental Assistant Michael Mayr. They offered samples of toothbrushes, toothpaste, stickers, dental books for children, coloring pages, and information about the Chelsea School Dental Center. Overall, it was a great afternoon and CHP looks forward to participating in this annual event again next year.
