Student National Dental Association Relaunches at BUGSDM

Thanks to increased enrollment of minority dental students this year at Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medicine (BUGSDM), the school is relaunching its chapter of the Student National Dental Association (SNDA). The BU chapter will work to recruit and retain minority dental students at BUGSDM and improve access to care for the community, with an emphasis on minority and underserved populations.

"We are a small chapter with a big heart," says the group’s Vice President Kimberly Haynes DMD 09. "Our members are highly motivated and committed to the growth and development of a strong BUSNDA organization."

BUSNDA, which started at the school in the 1980s, currently has 11 members who belong to all four DMD classes. The four executive board members include President Joseph Ayitey-Adjin DMD 09, Haynes, Secretary Shaun White DMD 09, and Treasurer Shirley Austin DMD 09. Director of Minority Affairs and 2002 National Dental Association President Dr. Gregory Stoute serves as the group’s advisor.

On the community service agenda next month is the Child Identification Program (CHIP) September 22. Members will take diagnostic impressions of Boston children at this event, which promotes child safety and recovery in Greater Boston.

BUSNDA invites all students, minority or otherwise, who believe in the group’s mission to find out more at the next meeting at 5 PM September 7. Location is to be announced.
