GSDM Appreciates the Arts

Art Days 2011 was held on March 28 and 29 in the Hiebert Lounge. Art Days is an annual event sponsored by the Dean of the School of Medicine. This year GSDM had a strong showing with multiple submissions from students, staff, and faculty.
They included:
Rohit James DMD 12: Graphite sketches
Clinical Assistant Professor Dr. Daniel Moran: Poetry
Shivali Gohel DMD 12: Pencil sketches
Nisha Sundaragopal DMD 11: Oil on canvas as well as paper molding on canvas sculpted with acrylic teeth and aluminum foil
Susan Baloul ORTHO 09, 11: Painting and handmade purse
Manager of Patient Relations & Clinical Instructor Dr. Spandana Arvapali: Photography
Poutan Shahrokh DMD 13: Poetry
Yamini Gupta DMD 11: Jewelry

In addition to submitting his poetry to the exhibition, Dr. Moran also read his poetry aloud at a reading on the evening of the 28th. Students, faculty, and staff showed up to hear the 18 poems that he read, as well as learn about the experiences and events that have inspired his writing.
At the start of the evening he said, “Someone once said that hearing a poem is like listening in on a poet having a conversation with himself. I hope that you enjoy these poems.”
Dr. Moran is the author of eight collections of poetry, two of which are in translation. From 2005 to 2007, he was appointed Poet Laureate to Suffolk County, New York by the Legislature.
