GSDM Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Hosts Third Annual Return to Residency Day

On April 1, the Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine (GSDM) Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery hosted the Third Annual Return to Residency Day. The event featured nationally and internationally recognized speakers and provided an opportunity for alumni, faculty, residents, and staff to reconnect.
Associate Professor and Chair of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Dr. David Cottrell and Associate Professor and Director of Oral Surgery at Boston Medical Center Dr. Pushkar Mehra began the day by presenting updates and changes to the department both at GSDM and BMC. This was followed by a quarterly case review meeting.
After the meeting, the group heard from Chair of the Department of Anesthesia at BMC Dr. Keith Lewis, who discussed issues related to modernization of operating room facilities. President and Founder of the Pacific Clinical Research Foundation as well as the Smiles International Foundation Dr. Jeffrey Moses also spoke to the group about his experiences treating children and adults from third world countries who suffer from various craniofacial deformities. Dr. Moses, who is retired from private practice in California, travels the world each year directing surgical interventions for the underprivileged and his foundation sets up longitudinal care surgical clinics for patients affected with cleft lip and palate. Past President of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Dr. James Bert shared his expertise in two presentations titled, “Things I May Have Learned,” and “Surgical Management of the Unilateral Cleft Lip Deformity.”
Senior Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residents wrapped the event up with presentations on their clinical and research outcomes, many of which have been recognized with national awards or published in medical and dental journals.
