Orthodontic Resident Becomes U.S. Citizen

Elena Black ORAL BIO 07, ORTHO 09 celebrated her newly earned United States citizenship with a party at Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medicine (BUGSDM). The party featured an American flag cake, an assortment of US-themed gifts, and encouragement for Black to sing the national anthem. Members of the BUGSDM staff who organized the party said they wanted to celebrate Black’s achievement because she has been a wonderful member of the BUGSDM community for several years.

Black participated in the citizenship ceremony on September 17, National Citizenship Day. The ceremony was held at Fenway Park and over 3,000 people were sworn in as US citizens. Added Black, "This was the first time the ceremony was held at Fenway, so I was part of the first graduating class of Fenway Park." To commemorate this honor, everyone was given Red Sox Nation bracelets.

Black originally hails from Romania but has been living in the US for 7 years. She has two children, Nicholas and Mimi, ages 3 and 1 with her husband, Samuel Black ORAL BIO 07, ENDO 09.
