Faculty Spotlight: Dr. Carla Evans Receives 2025 American Association of Orthodontists Lifetime Achievement Award in Orthodontic Research
Dr. Carla Evans, clinical professor of orthodontics, received the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) Lifetime Achievement Award in Orthodontic Research earlier this year, becoming the first GSDM faculty member to receive this recognition.
According to the AAO, this award recognizes significant contributions to the science related to the specialty of orthodontics through research and significant contributions of original, outstanding, or innovative discoveries in orthodontic research.
“[The best part] is the recognition that what I’ve been doing is important to the clinical field and that people are aware of what I’ve done and are willing to acknowledge that it’s important,” Evans said.
Evans’ research focus has varied over the years, ranging from growth and development to orthodontic materials to craniofacial anomalies. She is currently helping develop standards for orthodontic researchers and orthodontic clinicians as the co-chair of orthodontic standards working group for the American Dental Association’s Standards Development Program.
