GSDM faculty member wins 2026 AAE Calvin D. Torneck Part-Time Educator Award
Yanling Jiang Oral Biology 91 DMD 95 ENDO 99, clinical professor emerita of endodontics, has been awarded the 2026 American Association of Endodontists Calvin D. Torneck part-time educator award, which recognizes an American Association of Endodontists (AAE) member who has made outstanding contributions to endodontic education with a focus on inspiring and supporting student excellence. Jiang will be presented with the award at next year’s AAE meeting in Salt Lake City.

“I never thought I would be in this position, but of course I’m so proud and honored,” said Jiang, who joined the GSDM faculty in 1996 and most recently held the rank of clinical professor of endodontics until her retirement in 2024. “I am humbled by this honor because I always felt meant to be [at] BU, since I came to this country 38 years [ago]. This is the only place I started as a student and I got all my training for DMD, Doctor of Science, and endodontics training–all BU.”
She credited her success to her fellow faculty members, who provided never-ending support throughout her entire time at GSDM. Jiang said she was grateful for everything the endodontics department has provided her through her professional career: It is a full-circle moment, she said, to now represent the department on a national level.
“The school offered me so many opportunities all my life, all my working life basically,” Jiang said. “I never left BU and [moved from] one position to another. I just feel so fortunate.”
