Two GSDM Alums Named 2017 William McKenna Volunteer Heroes
Since 1996, the Massachusetts Dental Society (MDS) and the Journal of the Massachusetts Dental Society have joined forces to honor and recognize local dentists who have dedicated their time to both MDS and the profession of dentistry. Two GSDMs have been chosen for the honor this year: Dr. Jeffrey R. Dornbush PROS 78, and Dr. Jared Reid DMD 04.
Dr. Dornbush has been practicing for 35 years, and is based out of Marblehead, Massachusetts. As a member of the MDS, he has served as District Chair, Vice Chair, and District Editor for the North Shore District Dental Society (NSDDS). He has also participated in Beacon Hill Day, the House of Delegates, and multiple MDS leadership meetings. On why volunteering with organized dentistry is important to Dr. Dornbush, he said, “It has put me in touch with colleagues at the local and state levels, developing invaluable, mutually enjoyable, supportive, and informative relationships. In addition to his work with MDS, Dr. Dornbush has been a member of the Greater New York Academy of Prosthodontics, where he served on the public relations/archive committee.
Dr. Jared Reid has been practicing general dentistry for 13 years, and his office is located in South Deerfield, Massachusetts. Volunteering is incredibly important to Dr. Reid, “Volunteering helps build community. I believe that dentistry in the state is stronger for all of us when there is a forum for communication and idea sharing.” As a member of the MDS, Dr. Reid is heavily involved with Yankee Dental Congress, as a member of the Yankee Oversight Committee. He also serves on the Dental Practice Committee for MDS, and is on the board of the Springfield Technical Community College’s hygiene program.
Each year MDS selects member dentists who have dedicated their energy, skills, and time to the profession of organized dentistry. The Volunteer Hero award is given in memory of the late Dr. William H. McKenna, who was a driving force behind the development of the Yankee Dental Congress, New England’s largest
