GSDM ASDA Donates Toys for Tots

On December 18, 2015, members of the Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine (GSDM) chapter of the American Student Dental Association (ASDA) donated 54 toys to the Toys for Tots program. The 2015 GSDM Toys for Tots toy drive was organized by our ASDA Chapter at GSDM. The toys were collected during a five day donation drive—from December 7-11—that took place at the Dental School.
GSDM ASDA members Bhoomi Kotak AS 17, Vaibhav Jagad AS 17, and Rohan Shah AS 17 joined Dr. Joseph Calabrese to personally deliver the toys to the Toys for Tots distribution center in South Boston on December 18.
“This is always a special time of year, a time to share with those less fortunate,” said Dr. Calabrese, GSDM ASDA Faculty Advisor and Assistant Dean of Students. “Each year I enjoy bringing the students to the distribution site so I can see the expression on their faces when they realize how much good is being done and knowing that we are a part of this special outreach project.”
Toys for Tots was established in 1947 by the United States Marine Corps with a primary goal to deliver, through a new toy at Christmas, a message of hope to less fortunate children. Since its founding, Toys for Tots has distributed more than 494 million toys to over 230 million less fortunate children.
“I would like to thank our GSDM ASDA along with Dr. Joseph Calabrese, Assistant Dean of Students for their extraordinary efforts for such a great cause,” said Dean Jeffrey W. Hutter. “Community outreach is an important component of the School’s mission and I am sure you put smiles on the faces of those less fortunate.”
