Orientation Begins for DMD 18 and AS 16 Students

On Monday, July 28, 2014, incoming pre-doctoral students began their orientation week at Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine (GSDM). DMD 18 and AS 16 students spent their first few days at GSDM getting to know faculty and staff, meeting peers, receiving information on available resources, learning about the curriculum, and becoming familiar with the campus.
Students began orientation Monday morning with breakfast in Hiebert Lounge. During this time, they signed in, picked up orientation packets, and met their Orientation Advisors. Afterward, Dean Jeffrey W. Hutter welcomed them in the Bakst Auditorium.
Dean Hutter said, “You are enrolled in the Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine because you have chosen dentistry as your profession and you have worked very hard in achieving the credentials necessary for acceptance into what is the finest dental school in the world.”
That afternoon, students attended a Welcome Luncheon hosted by GSDM in Hiebert Lounge. New students got to know each other and meet their professors during a taco-themed lunch buffet.
On Tuesday, students attended a lunch sponsored by the Massachusetts Dental Society (MDS). New students learned about the benefits that MDS can provide in their future. Afterward, students Monica Schmidt DMD 17 and Michael Mayr DMD 16 spoke to the students about their experiences at GSDM.
Assistant Dean of Students Dr. Joseph Calabrese reflected on the orientation: “This is always a very exciting time for the faculty, staff, and administration at the dental school.” He continued, “To see the expressions of joy on their faces as they enter this new chapter in their life brings a renewed energy to us.”
