A Sweet Ending for Students’ First Day of Orientation

On July 28, 2014, DMD 18 and AS 16 students completed their first day of orientation at the Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine (GSDM) with an Ice Cream Social & Student Organization Fair in Hiebert Lounge. Alumni couple Craig Allen and Nicole Paquette-Allen, both DMD 95, sponsored the event. The couple, who first met at GSDM as students, has sponsored the event for the past eight years.
“We support the Ice Cream Social to keep in touch with the University faculty and see the new dentists entering the profession,” Dr. Craig Allen reflected. “My professional and family lives get very busy, and this yearly event allows me to remember when and how I started.”
Other attendees included Dean Jeffrey W. Hutter, Assistant Dean of Students Dr. Joseph Calabrese, then Alumni Association President Mitchell Sabbagh DMD 87, and Alumni Board and Dean’s Advisory Board member Shadi Daher DMD 90, OMFS 94. Boston University mascot Rhett the Terrier made his fourth annual attendance to pose for pictures with students.
While they socialized, new students also had an opportunity to learn about some of the student organizations at GSDM, including: American Association of Women Dentists; American Student Dental Association; American Association of Public Health Dentistry; Alpha Omega; Hispanic Student Dental Association; Student National Dental Association; Muslim Student Association; and Asian Dental Student Association.
