Dr. Paula K. Friedman Edits Her First Book

Friedman_Geriatric_14.inddDr. Paula K. Friedman, Professor and Director of the Geriatric Fellowship Program at Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medicine (GSDM) edited a book for publisher Wiley-Blackwell. Scheduled for release in early October, Geriatric Dentistry: Caring for Our Aging Population will serve as a practical guide for dental practitioners in their approach to provide oral healthcare to an aging population.

The book discusses various health and oral health conditions faced by the geriatric population and provides a holistic perspective for engaging with older adults in health care settings. It offers tips on how to create a “senior-friendly office,” challenges preconceptions of geriatric decision-making abilities, and helps practitioners understand how to approach treatment planning for an older generation.  Each chapter provides case studies, practical discussion questions, and references for finding out more information about each topic.

Collaborating with 30 authors, Dr. Friedman developed the initial concept for the book and identified topics for each chapter. “I worked closely with the authors,” said Dr. Friedman.  Continuing, “I am proud that together we produced a useful guide for general practitioners and dental students alike as they work to treat this unique population of patients.”

This is Dr. Friedman’s first edited book. She is already making plans for additional chapters for future editions.

The book is currently available for pre-order on Wiley and Amazon.
