Dano and Nensey Accepted to MDS Leadership Institute

Clinical Assistant Professor David Dano and Zara Nensey DMD 14 joined the prestigious group of Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine (GSDM) alumni and faculty accepted to the MDS Leadership Institute in September. Just 18 participants—16 dentists and 2 students—are invited each cycle.

The Leadership Institute seeks to cultivate the future of the MDS by establishing the following goals for participants:

  • Think outside of the box on programs and activities
  • Run effective meetings
  • Motivate and inspire others to participate
  • Understand and articulate to others the major legislative issues impacting the dental profession

“I applaud Dr. Dano and Ms. Nensey for advancing their skills as leaders in the dental profession,” said Dean Jeffrey W. Hutter. “I know all of us at the School look forward to hearing what they learn in the coming months.”

The first year of the program consists of four half-day training sessions from September 2013 through March 2014, one evening team-building program, and one evening project meeting. In the second year, participants join an ad hoc committee and choose its focus.

Nensey and Dano attended their first meeting on September 18, 2013.

“The Leadership Institute has been an enlightening experience thus far,” said Nensey. “In our first session, I learned a lot about myself that I didn’t know, and more importantly, I’m aware of how of my leadership style influences my future as a practitioner. I learn the actual dentistry at school, but there’s more to being a dentist than just drilling and filling. I hope this helps me become a better team leader in my future practice and a stronger advocate for my career and my patients throughout my life. I’m honored to have been selected and I hope to make the most of this opportunity!”

Dr. Dano agreed, saying, “It is a great honor and privilege to be part of the MDS Leadership Institute. This program will serve as a unique platform, for both dentists and dental students, to learn, enhance, and sharpen personal leadership and communication skills. The knowledge gained during the program will help me to become a more effective leader, and the tools learned will be implemented in order to help our students to grow personally and professionally.”
