Honors and Festivities for GSDM Alumni, Faculty, and Friends at the 2012 ADA Annual Session

ADA_reception-200-FINAlumni, faculty, staff, students, and friends of the Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine (GSDM) connected once again during the American Dental Association (ADA) Annual Session, this year held from October 18 to October 21, 2012, in San Francisco.

During the ADA session, Dean and Mrs. Jeffrey W. Hutter hosted a GSDM reception on Friday, October 19, at the Four Seasons Hotel. Dean Hutter addressed the gathering of eighty-five: “I am so very pleased that so many of our alumni, faculty, staff, students, family members, and friends are here tonight and I hope you are all enjoying this year’s Annual Session of the American Dental Association.”

Dean Hutter congratulated the new fellows of the American College of Dentists (ACD) and the International College of Dentists (ICD) who were inducted into these honorary organizations on October 18 and 19, respectively.   “On behalf of the entire BU Community, for each of you, this is a wonderful accomplishment and one you should all feel very proud in achieving.”

The GSDM inductees to the American College of Dentists (ACD) were David Lustbader DMD 86, a member of the Dean’s Advisory Board; Debra Ryken DMD 84; Professor and Chair of Health Policy & Health Services Research and Director of the Northeast Center for Research to Evaluate and Eliminate Dental Disparities, Dr. Raul Garcia; and Clinical Assistant Professor of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Avram Berger OMFS 69.

The GSDM inductees to the International College of Dentists (ICD) were Puneet Kochhar DMD 03; Clinical Professor of General Dentistry and Director of the Division of Pre-doctoral Removable Prosthodontics, Ronni A. Schnell DMD 81; Benjamin H. Solomowitz DMD 83; G. Matthew Brock ENDO 02; and Mark Desrosiers, ENDO 06.

The ACD and the ICD recognize dentists for their individual achievements, leadership, and contributions to dentistry and society.

Dean Hutter provided an update on the School to the attendees of the reception. He spoke about the productive Dean’s Advisory Board and Alumni Board Meetings that met in September; the strides that GSDM is making toward achieving the ten goals of its Applied Strategic Plan, including the design and construction of a new facility; and about the excitement surrounding the upcoming, yearlong 50th Anniversary Celebration of GSDM’s founding.

Dean Hutter concluded by saying, “It is truly an honor and a privilege for me to serve as the Dean of our Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine, and Kathleen and I look forward to working with each and every one of you as we go forward in our Fundraising Campaign and in so doing realizing together our vision for the Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine to be the premier Center of Excellence in Oral Health Education, Research, and Patient Care in this nation.”

Overall, the 2012 ADA Annual Session proved to be a great opportunity for reunion, networking, learning, and recognition for GSDM alumni, faculty, and friends.
